The text provides perspectives on the significance of personality in state affairs, the societal foundations of authoritarian rule and state-sponsored violence, historians’ emotional connections to their research topics, the factors influencing historical events, the relevance of Marxist concepts in understanding Soviet history, the connection between Soviet history and contemporary Russia, and additional topics.
