In addition to his public lecture, Professor Rubin will also be meeting with a joint session of two graduate seminars in the German program (one on GDR Studies, one on material culture) the following day, Thursday, April 4 (3-5:50pm), also in B-243 Wells Hall, where the focus will be on his earlier monographs on East German material culture and everyday life, Synthetic Socialism and Amnesiopolis. Any students or faculty—from German, History, or beyond—who would like to join us for part or all of the session are welcome. We especially invite those from other disciplines, as one of the topics of discussion will be how we work at and across the interstices of history and (German) cultural studies.
