Dr. Amy Simon publishes Emotions in Yiddish Ghetto Diaries: Encountering Persecutors and Questioning Humanity

Dr. Amy Simon, Farber Family Endowed Chair in Holocaust Studies and European Jewish History and Assistant Professor in History, James Madison College, and the Serling Institute for Jewish Studies and Modern Israel, recently published the book, Emotions in Yiddish Ghetto Diaries: Encountering Persecutors and Questioning Humanity (Routledge, 2023).

This book features Yiddish diarists’ thoughts and feelings about persecutors in the Warsaw, Lodz, and Vilna ghettos leading to a thought-provoking history of the felt experience of persecution during the Holocaust. This publication focuses on the daily reflections of victims who relied on their diaries to help make sense of their world in the face of persistent and progressive suffering.
