Professor Ethan Segal’s chapter “Kodai • chusei Nihon no keizai shiso — mosaku no 
kokoromi” (“Searching for economic thought in ancient and medieval Japan”) was published in Prof. Kawaguchi Hiroshi’s edited volume Nihon no keizaishiso (Japanese Economic Thought). In the chapter, Segal explores various historical materials, from legal documents and government decrees to diaries and folktales for evidence of Japanese thinking about and approaches to economic matters.
