America at 250: American Icons

SHARE
Green background with the text "America at 250: American Icons" and "Co-sponsored event" and an image of four musicians.

This program celebrates Jewish-American composers of the 20th century. Featuring music by Gershwin, Copland, Bernstein, Irving Berlin, Morton Gould, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass, the recital highlights the lasting impact of these composers on American musical life. Performers include Guy Yehuda (clarinet), Yvonne Lam (violin), Tasha Warren (clarinet), Jane Bunnell (mezzosoprano), Patrick Johnson (piano), and special guests.

Guy Yehuda is an associate professor of clarinet and artist-teacher at MSU’s College of Music and an affiliate of the Serling Institute for Jewish Studies and Modern Israel. He is principal clarinetist with the Lansing Symphony and Jackson Symphony Orchestras and is hailed by composer John Corigliano as “One of the most awe-inspiring clarinetists today.”
Yvonne Lam is a grammy-winning associate professor of violin at MSU’s College of Music. She served as a co-artistic director and violinist/violist of Eighth Blackbird for eight years, performing 50 concerts a year
internationally with the groundbreaking chamber ensemble. Tasha Warren, two-time Grammy-nominated recording artist, teacher and international performer, is assistant professor of chamber music at MSU’s College of Music and is an affiliate of the Serling Institute for Jewish Studies and Modern Israel. She has premiered over one hundred solo clarinet and chamber works throughout the US, Europe, China, South Korea and India. Patrick Johnson is assistant professor of music theory at MSU’s College of Music. As a pianist, Johnson performs regularly throughout the Midwest as a solo, chamber, and orchestral pianist.
