Explore history at MSU
MSU’s Department of History offers classes on a wide range of topics, covering the history of the United States, Europe, Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the wider world. Our courses range from large introductory surveys to small, discussion‑based seminars, and they’re open to all students across the university.
Most of our classes have no prerequisites, making it easy to explore history, though a few courses have restrictions based on class standing. We’re proud to be a strong teaching department, where all faculty—no matter how senior or prominent in the profession—teach regularly and at every level, from introductory and survey courses to senior and graduate seminars. Our professors are deeply committed to teaching, regularly sharing ideas and best practices with one another to create engaging, effective courses. That commitment is reflected in our consistently positive student evaluations.
