Learning to Speak with Annie Tan

New York City based activist and storyteller Annie Tan will visit MSU on Tuesday, October 20. Tan will deliver a talk at Campbell Hall / North Lounge (The Honors College) from 3-5 p.m.

Tan is an educator and storyteller from Manhattan's Chinatown. Her work has been featured on The Huffington Post, New Republic, PBS’ Asian Americans, PBS’ Stories From the Stage, and on NPR’s The Moth Radio Hour. 

Tan's work also centers on the 1982 killing of her cousin Vincent Chin in Detroit. She has written extensively about this case, as well as on Asian family histories and the varying connections between anti-Black and Asian violence. Tan's writings and activism are at the intersection of Asian American and African American Histories. Her work encourages a deeper engagement with the spatial dimensions of Asian Americans’ political activism.
