Biography
My field of study is European medieval history, with special emphasis on the transition of culture and education between the tenth and twelfth centuries. My first book on the subject, A World Made by Men: Cognition and Society 400-1200, was published in 1985. Since then, I have written and co-written books on a variety of subjects, all dealing with the scholars and their activities in the central Middle Ages.
