Dr. Peter Alegi, Professor of History at Michigan State University, was recently quoted in the Anadolu News Agency article: “Why Israel should face an Olympics boycott like apartheid South Africa.”
Alegi, the author of Laduma! Soccer, Politics & Society in South Africa and African Soccerscapes: How a Continent Changed the World’s Game, said the sports boycott of apartheid South Africa proved to be an effective tool in the “broader quest for freedom…waged and fought for many years.” Similarly, sports sanctions on Israel could provide a significant boost for the “larger Palestinian quest for freedom, equality and justice.”
