Michigan State Associate Professor of History Dr. Ethan Segal was recently published in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Asian History. His article “Money, Trade, and Markets in Medieval Japan, 1150-1580,” examines the advancements in the history and historiography of coinage, credit, piracy, trade (both foreign and domestic), and markets throughout Japan’s medieval period, spanning from the late twelfth to the late sixteenth centuries. In the article, Dr. Segal offers recommendations for primary sources and provides suggestions for further reading. A print edition of the volume is anticipated to be released early next year.
