October 23, 2024
Join us on October 23rd from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in room 112 of Old Hort for Approaches to Community Engaged Digital Cultural Heritage, a talk by Dr. Carrie Heitman.
The goals of this workshop are threefold. First, attendees are invited to share and articulate their approaches to community engagement. What does that look like in the context of your cultural heritage work? What relationships exist or need to be built? Who might benefit and what are the potentials for harm? What is the next right step? Secondly, we will consider different methods and interventions suitable for the needs at hand. What digital tools, products, and mediums are appropriate for you and the communities you work with? What can be sustained and serve multiple needs? Lastly, we will think through how we, as practicing academics, contextualize our community engaged digital cultural heritage work within the academy. How do we communicate the impacts of our work? And what extant models can we look to for guidance?
Dr. Heitman is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and the Associate Director of the Center for Digital Research in the Humanities at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
She is a globally engaged anthropologist, archaeologist, and digital humanist. Carrie has helped lead various collaborative, open-access digital cultural heritage projects including the "Chaco Research Collection," and the "Ohio Hopewell: Ancient Crossroads of the American Midwest Project." Among other topics, her research explores how new technologies can support scholarly communication and facilitate responsible and inclusive digital access to cultural heritage information.
