The Department of History would like to congratulate graduate student Marissa Knaak on being awarded the William & Mary Burgan Prize for her presentation Mourning and the Annual Sale: Sheffield’s Department Stores and Queen Victoria’s Death, given on March 25 at the Midwest Victorian Studies Association’s Conference at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
Knaak’s major fields include Modern Europe and Women’s & Gender history.
Included in the prize is $500, which Knaak plans to use to support a research trip to Germany this summer for her dissertation.
“When they announced I’d won the award, I was surprised and pleased,” she said. “I thought my presentation had gone really well and had gotten a lot of great feedback and comments from other attendees, so getting the award was the icing on the cake of a stellar weekend.”
