Gloria J. Ashaolu is an NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellow and University Distinguished Fellow at Michigan State University. She received a B.A. in History and B.A. in African American and African Diaspora Studies, and minored in Education at UC Berkeley—where she was a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow. Her research interests include but are not limited to African American History, History of Education and Race, Black Women’s Intellectual History, and Black Diaspora/Comparative Black Studies. Her dissertation examines the pedagogy, curriculum, and activism of local Black female teachers during the Jim Crow era. Her scholarship and writing have appeared in Black Perspectives and forthcoming in The Journal of African American History. She is a member of the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society. She serves on the Leadership Team at the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL). She is a recipient of the MSU Educator Award and Fred Williams Endowed Award
