Presentation: Soviet Dreams’ and the Lake Placid Archipelago: Labor, Mobility, and Usability in the 1980 Olympics

May 17 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Emily Joan Elliott will present her research on the afterlives of the Lake Placid and Moscow 1980 Olympic Villages as part of the Back to the Future: A 1980s seminar series, sponsored by York St. John University.

In Soviet Dreams’ and the Lake Placid Archipelago: Labor, Mobility, and Usability in the 1980 Olympics, Dr. Elliott will examine and contextualize why the Moscow Olympic Village became a neighborhood that housed thousands of Soviet citizens and the Lake Placid Olympic Village a federal penitentiary. There will be a question-and-answer session to follow.

Dr. Elliott is an Academic Specialist in the Department of History and associate director for research and publications at H-Net.
