Ethan Veenhuis Barajas is a fifth year Doctoral Candidate in the Department of History. His major field is the United States, focusing on 20th century Mexican American History, the Puerto Rican diaspora, Race, and Im/migration. His minor fields are African American History with an emphasis on the 20th century urban north, and Caribbean History, with an interest in the Spanish Caribbean. His research deals with the United Teachers of Flint, the Flint Community Schools, and efforts to properly integrate both the classroom and the union itself. He was born and Raised in Flint to educators and union leaders so this project is very near and dear to him! In addition, he is very interested in developing innovative pedagogical practices to engage and excite undergraduate students about the study of history.
