Dr. Ed Murphy’s book, For a Proper Home: Housing Rights in the Margins of Urban Chile, 1960-2010 (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2015), won the 2016 Southern Cone Studies Section Social Sciences Book Award of the Latin American Studies Association. The awards committee had the following to say about his book:
“With clear prose, a strong use of a number of primary sources, and analytical and conceptual precision, Murphy invites the reader to use the home, the city, and the neighborhood in order to rethink the left, dictatorship, gender roles, the urban experience, and the concept of citizenship in an original way.”
