Graduate student Eric Kesse is a recipient of this year’s Charlotte W. Newcombe Fellowship, which promotes research into religious and ethical values and “in some way attends to those commitments and ideals and seeks to understand the communities, social practices, and political arrangements that embody them.” With the fellowship, Kesse will continue work on his dissertation, ” Living with Water: Environment, Slavery, and Spirituality in a West African Stilt-House Community—Nzulezo, c. mid-1700 – 1870s,” which investigates the social and environmental history of Nzulezo, a stilt-house community located in the middle of the Amanzule River in southwestern Ghana. Congratulations Eric!
