Riding your bicycle across town is an activity many MSU students take for granted every day, but in the 19th century this was a game-changing event for women for whom riding bikes was part of an activist movement. That piqued the interest of one MSU graduate student.
Christine Neejer, who is pursuing a Ph.D. in the Department of History, is in the midst of writing her dissertation on this very subject. It is focused on how the bicycle opened up opportunities for women in the 19th century to access things they never had before.
