Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Please join us in the History Department’s conference room (340 Morrill Hall) on Thursday, March 24 from Noon to 1pm for a Lunch and Learn session with Geography Prof. Randy Schaetzl. Randy will discuss:
“Integrating Geography into Michigan History, … Location, Location, Location”
Michigan has a very diverse geography, particularly with regard to its physical landscape. This talk and discussion provides examples of how Michigan’s physical geography influenced its historical settlement patterns and affected its state boundaries. Many examples will utilize Geographic Information Science (GIS) technologies, as a way to show patterns and spatial relationships.
While the short presentation focuses specifically on Michigan, Randy will offer ideas that span our historical research areas as well as offering practical ideas and advice on how geography professors are attempting to integrate history into their courses. This talk will provide history professors ideas on how to integrate geography into teaching history as well.
A light lunch will be provided for those in attendance. RSVPs for a lunch count are encouraged but not required to Anita Anthony at vantila1@msu.edu.
The Lunch and Learn Sessions are co-sponsored by the Department of History and HNet: Humanities and Social Sciences Online.
