Graduate Historians' Association

The Graduate Historians' Association is an organization dedicated to the study of history at the graduate level. Membership is open to any graduate student at Michigan State University. The association organizes and sponsors periodic events for graduate students to meet and share research, and also maintains an email list for graduate student announcements. All graduate students in the Department of History are automatically added to the list. Anyone wishing to contact the GHA may email gha@msu.edu.

The GHA is currently soliciting research presentations for an upcoming series of monthly brownbags. These are designed to help graduate students prepare conference presentations and job talks in a collegial atmosphere. Anyone interested in presenting should email the GHA or one of the officers.

Several members of the GHA have organized an informal theory reading group, which meets every other Thursday at a downtown East Lansing restaurant to discuss short (article/chapter-length) works of historical theory. Anyone interested in attending meetings should contact Ben Sawyer for times, location, and readings.

The GHA, along with graduate students at the University of Michigan, will be helping to organize the 3rd Annual Atlantic History Workshop, tentatively scheduled for May 2007. The workshop will be a forum for graduate students working in various areas of the Atlantic World to discuss their research with other graduate students and some of the leading researchers in the world. A call for papers is posted at the conference website, and any graduate students interested in organizing the conference should email Lindsay Gish.
