Segal to speak at Notre Dame on women in early medieval Japan

Dr. Ethan Segal will give a talk titled “Rethinking Women’s Roles in Early Medieval Japan: Was Hojo Masako Japan’s Only Female Shogun?“ at the University of Notre Dame.  The paper, part of his broader research project on gender in pre-modern Japan, explores the problematic ways in which the wife of the first shogun has been remembered.
