The Global Urban Studies Program presents:
Infrastructures of Home and City: The Problem of Housing in Modern Urban Society

In a rapidly urbanizing world marked by inequity and crises, housing has long raised questions about justice, livability, and governance. Yet despite a wave of recent scholarship and heightened public interest in the subject following the global financial crisis, analysts have been unable to satisfactorily engage with the multiple forces and meanings that constitute home and city. This project seeks to grapple with these problems though an exploration of the material and social infrastructures of urban housing. An interdisciplinary dialogue, the conference draws on perspectives from architecture, sociology, anthropology, history, geography, and urban planning in order to shed new light on the tensions and possibilities entailed in the evolution of home in modern urban society.
